FirstRand Empowerment Foundation Bursaries 2027 Open for STEM and Psychology Students

FirstRand Empowerment Foundation Bursaries 2027: If you are in a STEM or Psychology study programme, you have a great chance to further your studies. Applications are now open for the FirstRand Empowerment Foundation Bursary Programme for the 2027 academic year. It is organized by the FirstRand Empowerment Foundation (FREF) for outstanding South African students.

This programme is for a first full-time, one-year honours degree at a minimum NQF level 8 in selected STEM and psychology fields such as Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics (STEM) and Psychology at an authorised and accredited public university in South Africa.

Benefits of the FirstRand Empowerment Foundation Bursaries

It is designed to provide students with several key benefits of the FirstRand Empowerment Foundation Bursary that will really help them during their studies.

• Applicants will be provided with tuition fees.
• Accommodation, up to a threshold of R65,000, will be granted.
• Applicants will be given a monthly travel stipend.
• Study materials and books allowance will be covered.
• Applicants will also be provided with airtime vouchers.

Note: Prospective applicants will also be considered for mentoring, academic support, and work experience opportunities. (In some cases.)

Eligibility Criteria for the FirstRand Empowerment Foundation Bursaries

The applicants must meet the following requirements to be eligible for the FirstRand Empowerment Foundation Bursaries 2027:

• You must be a South African citizen.
• You must have completed your Matric.
• You must be between 18 and 35 years old by December 31, 2027.
• You must have obtained at least 60% in NSC Mathematics.
• You should have taken math, not Mathematical Literacy.
• You must be black, i.e. African, Coloured or Indian (ACI) according to the B-BBEE Act.
• You must have accomplished a minimum average of 60% in your undergraduate degree.
• You must be entering your first full-time, one-year honours degree in 2027.
• You must study to qualify for one of the eligible fields.
• You must have studied at a minimum of NQF level 8.
• You must attend an accredited and accrediated public university in South Africa.
• You must not have a combined household income of more than R700,000 per year.
