Applications are invited for the Swiss Government Excellence Scholarships programme, hosted by the Swiss Confederation. The scholarship is open for the session of 2027-2027 intake. It is a fully funded scholarship programme open to international students throughout the world.
It invites students from 180 countries who are eager to pursue their Arts Master’s, PhD, or postdoctoral studies at one of the most eminent Swiss universities.
Note: Scholarships supporting research, PhDs, and postdoctorals will no longer be available from 2027/2028.
Swiss Government Excellence Scholarships Benefits

- Health insurance will be prioritised first.
- A monthly stipend of CHF 2,450 will be provided until study completion.
- A housing grant of CHF 600 for one-time.
- A Half-Fare travelcard will be given for one year that actually covers 50% off in transport such as trains, buses, boats, and many mountain lifts across Switzerland.
- Non-EU/EFTA students will be provided with a one-way airfare ticket to move to their home destination after completing the study.
- The FCS coordinating body will organise excursions, dinners, and cultural activities for scholarship holders throughout the academic year.
- Expected to access ETH Zurich, EPFL, the University of Zurich, the University of Geneva, the University of Bern, and research institutes of the ETH Domain (PSI, WSL, Empa, Eawag).

Eligibility Criteria of Swiss Government Excellence Scholarships

- Applicants from Switzerland are not eligible to apply.
- Applicants must not exceed 35 years. (born after 31 December 1991)
- Must have a Master’s degree or equivalent qualification obtained by 31 July 2027.

- Applicants must not have previously received a Swiss Government Excellence Scholarship.
